Jake Scolding

Jacob Scolding, Research Technician at the National Lobster HatcheryJake is one of the research technicians at the National Lobster Hatchery. The work he is currently undertaking is developing disinfection protocols of lobster larvae and juveniles to improve rearing techniques at the NLH. Specifically the work involves the use of ozone and different chemicals as disinfection agents to try and increase the survival of lobsters in their early life stages in the hatchery. The work undertaken is in collaboration with the University of Wales, Swansea and has been commissioned by Norsk Hummer (a Norweigen company involved in the land-based hatching and growing of European lobsters) as part of the LobsterPlant project. The aim of LobsterPlant is the development of new technology for commercial land-based farming of European lobsters.
