Meet the Expert Tours
We are offering Meet the Expert Tours ~ £12 Adults ~ £6 Children – Enjoy a 30 minute behind the scenes tour with our resident expert. Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 10.15am (arrive for 10am and meet in front of the maternity ward). Advance booking (at least one day in advance) essential, you can book by phone or in person at the Visitor Centre, minimum group size is 4 people, maximum 10. Children (7-16 years) must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Tours are not suitable for children under 7 years.
If you are booking for our Meet the Expert Tours there are a few things we need to make you aware of. Please make sure you wear sensible footwear (no heels), you will need to use the disinfectant footbaths upon entering and leaving the hatchery, you must be careful not to slip on the wet floors in the hatchery and children must be supervised at all times. It’s important that you avoid touching the tanks or water. As you can imagine, water quality is critical in successfully growing juvenile lobsters. We look forward to meeting you.
Gift Aid is a very simple idea from the taxman which enables The National Lobster Hatchery to reclaim the tax paid on donations. If instead of paying our admission fee you make a donation of equal value or more, you will receive free admission for a year and can come back free of charge as many times as you like for the next 12 months. For every £1 you donate, the government will give us an extra 25p of Gift Aid on top of your donation which will be additional funding for our charitable work. There’s no catch. You win. We win. And the taxman’s happy.
In order to gift aid you must be a UK taxpayer and have paid the same amount or more in Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in that tax year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations (most of our visitors easily do) and it is your responsibility to pay any difference.
Please notify the charity if you:
- want to cancel this declaration
- change your name or home address
- no longer pay sufficient tax on your income and/or capital gains
If you pay Income Tax at the higher or additional rate and want to receive the additional tax relief due to you, you must include all your Gift Aid donations on your Self-Assessment tax return or ask HM Revenue and Customs to adjust your tax code.
We are open all year, 7 days a week, from 10 am every day of the year. Except Christmas Day.
