A massive thank you once again to The Big Swim Team, Sarah Coates, all the volunteers that gave up their precious time, all the swimmers who took part and raised money for all the beneficiaries. 2015 was probably the best Big Swim ever with perfect sea conditions and sunshine. The photographs say it all.
It’s not just the National Lobster Hatchery that benefits from The Big Swim Cornwall, but also Little Harbour Children’s Hospice, Port Isaac RNLI Lifeboat Station, Polzeath Life Saving Club, National Trust, the Port Isaac Gig Rowing Club and Air Ambulance. All these charities are so vital to supporting the lives of people living in our fragile coastal communities.
Over 350 swimmers take to the water at The Big Swim each year in several events including The Little Swim for the children (a 200 yard sea swim in the shelter of Port Isaac harbour), The Not So Serious Swim and The Serious Swim (one mile sea swims from Port Gaverne to Port Isaac) and The Super Serious Swim (a 3.5 mile swim from Port Quin to Port Isaac). Not to mention The Big Party that continues throughout the afternoon and evening with live music on the Platt at Port Isaac enjoying food, beer from Sharps Brewery (the sponsor of the event) and the sunset lowering beyond the fishing boats in the harbour. What could be better.
Keep your eyes on The Big Swim Cornwall website for the 2016 date.
