It has been a busy month for team lobster, as we’ve had a great kick start for our summer educational events programme! We spent an excellent day on the beach as part of Polzeath Marine Discovery Day, celebrating all things marine. We were joined by a host of other conservation groups, including Cornwall Wildlife Trust, The National Trust, and the underwater litter pick group Fathoms Free. We spoke to over 500 people on the beach, as we promoted sustainable fisheries with the help of our lovely little lobster larvae, and larger than life Larry the Lobster! Newly on offer was marine themed face painting, which was a huge success, with one child requesting an eagle ray and a whale shark – good job that we are trained in both face painting and marine biology!
The education team have been showcasing lobster lessons across the extremes of the educational spectrum, from preschool children as part of Padstow Library’s Bookstart Bear programme, helping GCSE students to prepare for exam questions on sustainable fisheries, to encouraging responsible seafood consumer choices among senior members of Mount Charles Fellowship Church.
