Exciting Illustration competition!

You could create the image of a brand new limited edition Rum with Distinctly Gin and the National Lobster Hatchery!

We are running a fantastic competition to give you the chance to have YOUR very own design on the front of a brand new premium rum by artisan distillery Distinctly Drinks’! This bespoke rum will be named after our much loved giant lobster ‘Captain Barnacles’ so you could be the one to keep his lobster – legacy alive in this wonderful way!

We are looking for artists / graphic designers / creatives to design a label for our limited edition NEW lobster rum ‘Captain Barnacles’ – The art work should portray the essence of Captain Barnacles’ charming character but it is totally open to interpretation. Anyone can enter and it’s open to all levels of talent and all ages (as long as under 18s have consent from a guardian!)

If your design is picked as our winner, not only will your amazing artwork be displayed proudly on this highly prestigious brand for all to see,  but you will also win a bottle of the delicious Lobster Rum, gain FREE entry for two to our fascinating NLH visitor centre for a year AND we’ll even give you your very own ‘lobster adoption’! We will also promote your fabulous art work across our popular social media sites and even offer you the opportunity to exhibit your work in our stunning exhibition room here at the hatchery!

Your entries will be judged by Laurance Traverso, owner of Distinctly Gin and of course our amazing team of lobster experts!

All entries should be sent in digital format as a PNG or JPEG image.

The entries should be 145mm x 95mm oval or square for the front label of the Lobster Rum bottle

  • What Colour is the rum?
    'The rum is a golden colour, like a light whiskey'
  • Can I enter more than once?
    Yes of course! We're happy to have as many entries as possible!
  • Can I enter if i'm not in the UK?
    Absolutely! We want this to spread far and wide, so wherever you are - send us your artwork!
  • Can I enter it as a drawing or does it need to be digital?
    You're more than welcome to send us a high quality scan of of your drawing (we will accept photos but if it is picked it will need to be scanned!) - ideally it will be on plain paper too. We would also love any digital versions created on illustrator etc as this will make life easier for us!

Entrants into the Competition shall be deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions.

The Competition is open to all, under 18’s must have written consent by a parent or guardian.
The Competition is open to all artists, both amateur and professional.
 By submitting an entry to the Competition, You grant the National Lobster Hatchery (NLH) and Distinctly Gin
  1. Permission for your entry to be published by the NLH and Distinctly Gin and you grant the NLH and Distinctly Gin a non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual licence (with a right to sub-license) to use, republish, edit and/or modify your Competition entry in any/all media (including in electronic format, hard copy and in GNM publications) for purposes connected with the Competition and as described in these Terms and Conditions.
  2. The right to use your name and county of residence for the sole purpose of identifying you as the author of your entry and/or as a winner of the Competition.
You own the copyright to your Competition entry as its author. Your entry must be your own work, must not be copied, must not contain any third-party materials and/or content that you do not have permission to use, must not include any trademarks, and must not show inappropriate or dangerous behaviour, or otherwise be obscene, defamatory, distasteful, offensive, or in breach of any applicable law or regulation, or in breach of any confidentiality obligations owed by you to third parties. If The NLH or Distinctly Gin has reason to believe your entry is not your own work or otherwise breaches these Terms and Conditions, then we may not consider it and may disqualify it.
Entrants confirm that each individual whose image is featured in the Competition entry has given consent for the use of his/her image in connection with this Competition and in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. Where an individual whose image is featured in a Competition entry is aged less than 18 years the entrant confirms that the parent or guardian of that individual has given the relevant consent.
The winners may be required to take part in promotional activity related to the Competition and the winners shall participate in such activity on The NLH and Distinctly Gin’s reasonable request. The winners consent to the use by NLH and its related companies, both before and after the closing date of the Competition for an unlimited time, of the winners’ voice, image, photograph and name for publicity purposes (in any medium, including still photographs and films, and on the internet, and in advertising, marketing or promotional material without additional compensation or prior notice and, in entering the Competition, all entrants consent to the same.
The NLH and Distinctly Gin accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered by you as a result of entering the Competition or accepting any prize. The National Lobster Hatchery further disclaims liability for any injury or damage to you or any other person’s computer relating to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials in connection with the Competition.
The NLH and Distinctly Gin shall not be liable for any failure to comply with its obligations relating to this Competition where the failure is caused by something outside its reasonable control. Such circumstances shall include, but not be limited to, weather conditions, fire, flood, hurricane, strike, industrial dispute, war, hostilities, political unrest, riots, civil commotion, inevitable accidents, supervening legislation or any other circumstances amounting to force majeure.
The NLH and Distinctly Gin cannot cover any costs for entrants, including travel costs, materials or time.
