We are delighted to tell you that ‘The Grand Hatter’s Tea Party’ fundraising event, held at The Kensington Roof Gardens, London, was a great success! We had a fantastic turn out of guests who all had a wonderful time. Everyone very much enjoyed the delicious ‘Cornish sustainable canapés’ cooked up by chef Sanjay Kumar, our singers Maisie Tooley and Nancy May were incredible, literally raising the roof of the ‘roof gardens’ with their beautiful voices, accompanied by the very talented Michael Paine on piano. As for the hat show, it was just fabulous! So many beautiful and creative hats (including an inspired ‘lobster’ hat!). Mr John Boyd and his team worked incredibly hard and their talent is outstanding, it is no wonder he is still very much in demand after 73 years in the business! It was lovely to see our host Peter Crown’s original models back on the catwalk, showing us how it’s done and to hear Mr Crown introduce each of his friend’s hats with such insight and charisma. The raffle and auction proved a huge success, with actor Sir Jeremy Child adding great entertainment and generating some very generous bids. As a result the event raised just over £17,000 for the charity and the NLH has gained some new and very generous supporters, which is just fantastic. We cannot thank Mr Peter Crown OBE enough for hosting this event and we are incredibly grateful to all who helped to make it such a success, especially those who donated such outstanding auction and raffle prizes and ‘the best of Cornish’ for our goodie bags. A huge thank you to Jackie Stanley Estate Agents (Padstow & Rock) for sponsoring our ‘bubbles reception’ and to Wing of St Mawes for providing delicious salmon and sardines for the canapés. We also want to thank Hannah Carter for make-up, The George Vallossian salon for hair and a special thanks to Gill Harvey of 15 Connaught Street, London who very generously donated her stunning dresses for the singers and our hard working team of staff to wear on the day (they do scrub up well!).
